University League Rules

Eligibility
  1. The Smart Logistics Datathon 2024 ("Datathon") is open to all full-time university students in Asia, including undergraduates and postgraduates.
  2. Only teams are allowed to take part in the Datathon.
  3. A team should consist of at most three members. Each team has a team leader.
  4. Team members can be formed with the participants from either same or other universities. Organiser can assist individual participant on teaming up if he/she agrees.
  5. Employees of organiser or sponsors and their respective parent companies, affiliates, subsidiaries, and their respective immediate family members are not eligible to participate in the Datathon.
  6. Organiser has the right at their sole discretion to determine whether a team is eligible for the Datathon.
Fee
  1. Registration and participation in the Datathon is free.
  2. Overseas participants should bear the expenses for their own travel and accommodations while a subsidy on airfare (direct flight economy return) up to HKD3,000 on reimbursement basis, will be provided for those who require air transportation to Hong Kong. Airfare subsidies for Mainland or Taiwan participants are capped at HKD2,500. Transportation by high-speed rail from/to Mainland China can also be covered.
Application Procedures
  1. We offer online application only. Interested students should fill in the online application form at http://aiscl.cuhk.edu.hk/datathon/form_university_register.html.
  2. Each team submits one application only.
  3. Individual participants, will be considered as special cases, please email to register. The organiser may assist individual participants with teaming up if he/she agrees.
  4. Team members cannot be changed without official permission from the organiser once the application is confirmed.
  5. Application deadline is 11:59pm HKT on 16th February, 2024.
Competition Procedures
  1. A team of professors will select at most 20 teams from submitted applications to enter the competition.
  2. Selected teams will be informed by email no later than 29th February, 2024. Student participants are required to duly return the signed reply slip along with the required documents upon receipt of the invitation letter issued by the AISCL in confirmation of participation.
  3. An online briefing session will be held on 1st March, 2024 (TBD) for all participants. Details will be announced in due course.
  4. Eligible teams should report their presence and complete the registration process on the afternoon of 1st April, 2024 at the Datathon venue.
  5. The Datathon will take place in the Multifunction Room 1 to 3 in Cyberport Hong Kong.
  6. Participants must present the student identification card during registration to the competition.
  7. At the end of the competition, each team will have 10 minutes to present or demonstrate their results in front of a panel of judges. Three teams will be selected as winners of the Datathon.
  8. All works and presentation must be in English .
Regulations
  1. The Asian Institute of Supply Chains & Logistics (AISCL) reserves the right to amend the Datathon rules herein or to terminate the Datathon at any time without any liability to any participant or third party.
  2. Participants must not submit content or works that is unlawful, obscene, defamatory, libelous, threatening, pornographic, harassing, hateful, racially or ethnically offensive, or encourages conduct that would be considered a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability, violate any law, or is otherwise inappropriate or destructive to the Datathon’s organiser or sponsors’ brand image or goodwill.
  3. The Datathon is dedicated to providing a harassment-free experience for everyone, regardless of gender, age, sexual orientation, disability, physical appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, previous Datathon attendance or computing experience (or lack of the aforementioned). We do not tolerate harassment of Datathon participants in any form. Sexual language and imagery is not appropriate at any Datathon venue, including talks, workshops, parties, social media and other online media.
  4. Participants must not submit content or works that contains any computer viruses, Trojan horses, worms or other disabling devices or harmful code.
  5. Participants agree to follow and abide by the regulations and judging criteria.
  6. During the competition, participants are not allowed to leave Cyberport without organiser’s permission.
  7. AISCL reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to disqualify any individual that tampers or attempts to tamper with the Datathon process or the operation of the competition or website; violates the Official Competition Rules; or acts in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person.
Responsibility
  1. AISCL is not responsible for accidents, injuries, and teams’ property damage during the Datathon, which happens due to lack of proper precautions.
  2. AISCL will provide meals, coffee, and water to participants during the Datathon.
  3. Each participant must supply his/her own laptop computer to participate.
  4. Staff members from AISCL and security guards from Cyberport will be manned at the competition venue throughout the competition.
Judging Criteria

The winners will be selected by a panel of judges consisting of professors and senior executives from the industry. Winners will be judged based on the following criteria:

  • Creative use of data: How innovatively participants use the data provided in their analysis.
  • Methodology: The robustness and validity of the methods applied to analyze the data.
  • Business savvy: The ability to understand and apply business concepts effectively in the context of the data analysis.
  • Significance of findings and recommendations: The importance and impact of the insights discovered and the actionability of the recommendations made.
  • Presentation skills: The effectiveness of communication, clarity of the presentation, and the ability to engage the audience.
Intellectual Property Rights
  1. By registering for the Datathon, participants agree not to disclose the data or information provided by the AISCL or sponsors to any unauthorized parties.
  2. Participants shall retain ownership of all works created during the Datathon. All creations and ideas submitted remain the intellectual property of the teams that developed them.
  3. Participants represent and warrant that the works submitted for the Datathon are and will be their own original work and do not and will not infringe the intellectual property or proprietary rights of any third party, including, without limitation, any third party patents, copyrights, or trademarks.
  4. By registering for the Datathon, participants agree that AISCL and the sponsors receive an irrevocable, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, distribute to the public, and publicly display and perform submissions and works for non-commercial and/or promotional purposes.
  5. Participants agree not to instigate, support, maintain, or authorize any action, claim, or lawsuit against the organizer, sponsors, or any other person, on the grounds that any use of the participant’s works infringes any of the participant's rights as creator of the works, including, without limitation, trademark rights, copyrights, and moral rights.
Data Protection
  1. AISCL or the sponsors of the Datathon will take photographs and video of the event to be used for publicity and/or promotional purposes.
  2. Participants need to destroy all data records obtained for the Datathon from the organiser and should not retain any copy after the Datathon finished.
  3. We will collect the personal data provided by you when you submit your application. This includes your contact data. We adopt the policy on personal data with that of The Chinese University of Hong Kong.
