About Smart City Datathon 2018

The Smart City Datathon 2018 was successfully held on October 12–14, 2018.

There were 73 teams that applied for the competition. 20 teams were chosen based on the quality of their essays, their academic achievements, and their team compositions as finalists for the competition. The total of 59 students came from 24 universities in Mainland China, Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, and Hong Kong.

The 35-hour Datathon started with an opening ceremony followed by a series of seminars and workshops. The participating teams were given a set of data on flight schedules and airport passenger flow for analysis.

The event has attracted significant attention from the HKSAR Government. Dr. Bernard Chan, JP, Under Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, as well as Dr. Christine Choi, Under Secretary for Education, have come to greet the student teams at Cyberport. Mr. Victor Lam, JP, Government Chief Information Officer, has also come to present awards to the winning teams.
